How is the translucency of CAD plotter paper achieved?

The translucency of CAD plotter paper is achieved through a series of carefully designed and controlled manufacturing processes, involving various aspects such as material selection, fiber treatment, paper structure formation, and surface treatment.
The choice of materials plays a crucial role in the translucency of the paper. High-quality wood pulp can provide long and soft fibers, which, during the interweaving process, can form a uniform porous structure, allowing light to pass through the paper without being completely transparent. Additionally, bleaching treatment can further improve the optical properties of the fibers, enhancing the transparency of the paper.
Next, fiber treatment is a key step in achieving translucency. During the manufacturing process, fibers undergo pulping treatment, which adjusts the length and fineness of the fibers, as well as the degree of interweaving between fibers, to control the porosity and density of the paper. The appropriate pore structure allows light to penetrate the paper while maintaining a certain degree of opacity, achieving translucency.

The formation of paper structure is also an important factor influencing translucency. On the paper machine, fibers form a uniform wet web, which then undergoes processes such as pressing and drying to form the final paper structure. This process requires precise control of the thickness, smoothness, and uniformity of the paper to ensure the stability and consistency of translucency.
Surface treatment processes also affect the translucency of the paper. Some CAD plotter papers undergo coating treatment, where a layer of special coating is applied to the surface of the paper. This coating not only improves the glossiness and smoothness of the paper but also further adjusts its translucency. Additionally, calendering processes can improve the surface condition of the paper, enhancing the uniformity and clarity of the translucency effect.
These processes and material choices are made to meet specific drawing and design requirements, allowing CAD plotter paper to exhibit the desired translucency during use.
